Wedding Invitation Ornament and #18 Complete

Today is a two for one post, people! We get one super easy project AND we get to cross something off my 26 before 26 list. Woo hoo! And, if you're looking for a last minute gift for some newlyweds in your life, this would be perfect.

My sweet cousin Melissa just got married this month. I was so sad we couldn't make it out to the wedding, but I knew I wanted to send her something special. I originally saw the project on pinterest, and loved it. It's so simple and so meaningful. Gotta love that.

Wanna learn how to make one too? As with most of my projects, it's so very easy.

Supplies you'll need:
Wedding invitation (or other meaningful piece of paper- birth announcement maybe?)
Scissors
Clear glass ornament
Ribbon

Simply cut the invitation into strips.

You want the words to show, so don't cut any lines of words in half. You most likely won't be able to fit the entire invitation in the ornament, so you can put the strips that are blank to the side and only use them if you need them.

Next, you need to curl your strips. To do this, simple wrap the strips around your finger or a pen in a spiral. Then just take the top off the ornament and feed the curled strips into the bulb. If they aren't laying how you'd like them to, try using some tweezers to manipulate the strips inside the bulb. Tie a ribbon on it and you're all done!

And there it is - #18 crossed off the 26 before 26 list! Truth be told, I've actually made a few gifts this Christmas season, but I can't post about those before Christmas because I don't want to ruin the surprise for the recipients. BUTTTT- I officially received news that this gift was received yesterday and now I felt free to post about it!

I think it's the perfect thing to do with a wedding invitation- don't you? I might just have to bust out one of mine from the overflowing wedding box and do it :)

Twine Trees : Creating Christmas : Day Six

Is anyone else feeling like this week has just flown by? I can't believe it's already Friday. No complaints here, though. I'm excited for the weekend! Don't forget to get your projects ready and link up with tomorrow's Creating Christmas Link Party!

Today, I'm showing your the Twine Christmas Trees that I made. I think they are probably my favorite project of the week.

Aren't they cute? Here's how I made them:

Supplies:
Styrofoam Cones (I used 6" and found them in the floral section at Michael's)
Twine
Decorations (I used sequins, mini pom pom ribbon, beads and mini star ornaments)
Hot Glue Gun, or other adhesive
Scissors

{I'll let the pictures do most of the talking}

Start by placing a strip of glue along the bottom of your cone.
 Adhere the twine.

Keep wrapping from there. (no glue needed)

...Until you get to the top. Once you're up there, coat the top of the cone with more glue. Adhere the twine. Leave some room for the star.

Stick the star in the foam. Trim the twine.

Repeat for all cones. Then...Start decorating!

Sequins!

Bead Garland!

Cut it up and you've got cute little mini ornaments.

DIY Glitter Candles : Creating Christmas : Day Five

Day Five!

Remember how I told you recently that I went on a bit of a glitter rampage? Well, one of the things that didn't survive were the candles. Once I figured out mod podge wasn't flammable, they really had no chance.I don't know what it is about this Christmas, but it's really making me want to glitter EVERYTHING.

This is a super easy (I say that a lot, don't I?) and I am loving the results. Want to make some too? Ok!

Supplies you'll need:
Mod Podge
Glitter
Candles
Foam brush
Painter's tape (optional)

I decided I wanted to do some glitter stripes on two of my candles, so I taped out my design with painter's tape. The painter's tape doesn't exactly love the waxy candle, so be sure to press it down hard.

Next, I mixed my glitter and mod podge. Put a good amount of mod podge in a cup or on a plate and pour in the glitter. If you're doing stripes or another design, you're going to want to have a heavy hand with the glitter. If you just want to an overall light glittery effect, you can use less.

I then simply painted the mod podge glitter concoction onto the candles.

Do a few layers, letting it dry a bit in between. For an even more sparkly effect, sprinkle extra glitter on the wet mod podge.

Once mostly dry, peel off your tape. Admire your sparkly handy work and display!

Guest Post : Mantel Fun : Creating Christmas : Day Four

We are smack dab in the middle of Creating Christmas!

Today would usually be our normal Wednesday Words post,  but since this craft involves involves words, consider it a christmas craft AND wednesday words all rolled into one! To make things, even better, my dear friend Jami from Lollies and Lemons is sharing this cute and simple craft.

Truth be told , I am completed jealous of her mantel goodness. My current apartment has no fireplace and that is no fun come Christmas! But anyway, enough about my ridiculously hard life without a fireplace mantel, onto the crafting. Take it away, Jami!

Mantel Fun
Inspired by Pinterest, I wanted to create a festive piece for my mantel

I started with a nice little trip to the thrift store and purchase three (3) 5x7 picture frames for $2.55.  I bought a small bottle of red spray paint and used some fun Christmas paper I found at Michaels.

I spray painted all three frames.  If you want each frame to be the same shade of red (or whichever color you choose, I recommend using a primer).

Next, I searched for fun fonts to use.  There are several free fonts online  but I used the general fonts in Microsoft Office.  I printed directly on the scrapbook paper.  I traced the letters with a black sharpie to enhance the color.

The glass from the picture frame is a useful guide.

This is a handy tool for swift cutting but regular scissors work just fine.

After all pieces are cut, place in frame.  I choose not to use the picture frame glass.  Voila!

Didn't she do a fabulous job? I love the paper she chose. Be sure to head on over to Jami's blog, Lollies and Lemons to check her out. If you're anything like me, you'll be giggling in no time.

If you don't mind, please take a moment to Follow Love, Lindsey!
